(47 by 40.6cm) Provenance: By descent from the sitter to his daughter, Joan Mary Templeton (née Casement); Whyte’s, 27 May 2006, Dublin, lot 114; Private collection Inscription reads: “Roger Hugh Casement / b. 8th April 1883 / m. 24th April 1911 to Mary K. Conor / d. 3rd march 1924 / This belongs to Joan Templeton Casement”. We are grateful to Hugh Casement for this correction to the text on the reverse: He was married (at St Andrew, Darjeeling) on 29 April 1911, according to the India Office Ecclesiastical Returns.
