(29.2 by 46.4cm) Frame Size: Provenance: Acquired directly from the Bruen family, Oak Park Estate Co. Carlow; Thence by descent; Whyte’s, 26 February 2018, ex lot 117; Private collection Henry Bruen of Oak Park Estate Co. Carlow was a lieutenant in the Royal Artillery. The estate was purchased by Irish MP Henry Bruen in 1775 and remained in the family until 1957. The present collection of watercolours includes one County Carlow scene, Tenerife, Portugal (including a view from Lord Byron’s Room in the Lawrence Hotel, Sintra), Brazil, Colombia, Peru and Panama. An interesting and beautifully preserved visual record of an Irishman’s travels in the first two decades of the 20th century. €700-€1,000 (£600-£850 approx.)
