WHYTE'S THE ECLECTIC COLLECTOR TIMED ON-LINE AUCTION 17 MAY TO 7 JUNE 2024
115 History THE ECLECTIC COLLECTOR · FRIDAY 7 JUNE 2024 299 1970-1975 A Royal Ulster Constabulary rubber bullet gun, complete with cartridge box. American Federal Riot Gun, numbered G25769, 1.5 inch calibre, 12 inch barrel, the box to hold 12 rubber baton rounds. A very rare artefact from the Northern Ireland conflict. Accompanied by pamphlets and booklets concerning deaths from plastic and rubber bullets. Condition: Very good. Rubber baton rounds (rubber bullets), were used in Northern Ireland from 1970 and were withdrawn by the end of 1975. Rubber bullets were meant to be fired at the legs of rioters on the ground in front of them. However, they were often fired directly at people from close range. The use of rubber bullets in Northern Ireland resulted in at least three people being killed and many more badly injured. They were replaced by plastic baton rounds which were considered, erroneously, less lethal. Estimate €2,000-€3,000 (approx £1,710-£2,560) Click here for more images and to bid on this lot 299
