A scarce example in very good condition, the silvered skull complete with gilt fittings, laurel spray overlays, the gilt frontal plate with crowned Garter motto, Royal Arms and Prince of Wales Plumes, with battle honours ‘Peninsula, Waterloo’, ornate lions head side ornaments with linked leather lined chin scales and inner leather sweat band. Condition: Some restoration and rebuilding has taken place in the late 20th century. The chin scales are recent replacements; there are 20th century nuts and bolts in the interior, just forward of the lion’s head ear bosses, and securing the crest at the top.
