Apparently from Mrs Robinson’s house in Lansdowne Road Brighton, possibly a guesthouse. Other signatures include Lady Bective, Lady Edward Spencer Churchill, Lord Henry Bentine, Mrs Oscar Wilde, Lady St. Leonard, LordWilliam Neill, Violet Martin (Martin Ross), Lord Chichester, Earl of Burford, Arthur Guinness, etc. Condition: Distressed cover and binding, most pages loose but very good and legible. Inscribed ‘Captain Thomas PhilipWalker’, includes two watercolours of Market Drayton, photographs include Kinsale Harbour, Charles Fort, Ballintober, Mount Long, Walton Court, Cloyne, Ballymoney Cork, HMS Warspite, Queenstown, and other ships, Fermoy, Walker in dress uniform 1897, figurative of peasants, fox hunting scenes, etc. (96 photos). A few 4.5 x 6.5 inches, mostly 3 by 4in. (7.6 by 10.2cm) Condition: Laid down to pages of old distressed album, a few faded, mostly very good. Walker was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1898. He assumed command of the first class protected cruiser Royal Arthur in April 1901.He served as captain of Formidable from October 1904 until March 1906. He was appointed a Naval Aide-de-Camp to King Edward VII dated 8 February, 1907. Walker was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 22 March, 1908. On 8 December, 1903, he was placed on the Retired List on 22 September, 1911, and was advanced to the rank of Vice-Admiral on the Retired List on 15 May, 1913. On 10 April, 1915, Walker was granted a temporary Commission as Captain in the Royal Naval Reserve. Walker was advanced to the rank of Admiral on the Retired List on 2 April, 1917. In recognition of his services “in the prosecution of the war,”Walker was appointed a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order on 3 June, 1918. Queen’s Crown over Maid of Erin, brown on beige, possibly originally gold or yellow. Rare, a type not seen by us before.. 24 by 29in.
