22 11 James Humbert Craig RHA RUA (1877-1944) ROCKPORT COTTAGE, CUSHENDEN, COUNTY ANTRIM oil on panel signed and dedicated on reverse 10 by 14in. (25.4 by 35.6cm) Frame Size: 24.75 by 28.75in. (62.9 by 73cm) Inscribed: “Sketch of Rockport Cottages. To Sidney Parry Esq.” This is an important painting in the context of Craig memorabilia. In 1919 Craig purchased Tornamona Cottage, subsequently known as Rockport Cottage and over the following years, added further upstairs accommodation and a studio. He used this location up to his death 25 years later. In the background can be seen the cottage of his friend and neighbour John McNeil, immortalised in one of his later paintings as “John O’ the Rocks”. €2,000-€3,000 (£1,680-£2,520 approx.)
