10 3 Rose Mary Barton RWS (1856-1929) SUNSET TOWARDS ST. ANDREW’S CHURCH, FROM NASSAU STREET, DUBLIN watercolour signed lower right 11.25 by 9.50in. (28.6 by 24.1cm) Frame Size: 17 by 15in. (43.2 by 38.1cm) Barton painted a number of exquisite watercolours of Nassau Street in Dublin, two others of which sold previously through these rooms; Nassau Street, from Outside the Kildare Street Club, Dublin (Whyte’s, 2 October 2023, lot 8) and Catching the Tram in Nassau Street, Dublin (Whyte’s, 28 April 2008, lot 104). The example sold in 2023 was included in Barton’s retrospective in the Crawford Gallery, Cork in 1987 (loaned by Major Victor Hugh Harry McCalmont, then of Mount Juliet, Co. Kilkenny). A comparable view was also illustrated in Frances Gerard’s Picturesque Dublin (1898, p. 227). Yet another sold through Adam’s, 6 December 1979 (lot 8). That work depicted a woman in a pony trap near the corner of Kildare Street, and was featured on the front cover of Raymond Brooke’s book The Brimming River (1961). €8,000-€12,000 (£6,670-£10,000 approx.)
