(61 by 51.4cm) Provenance: Whyte’s, 27 November 2017, lot 18; Private collection Exhibited: ‘Irish Women Artists 1870-1970’, Summer Loan Exhibition, Adam’s, Dublin; afterwards at The Ava Gallery, Clandeboye, July to September 2014 Born Eileen Oulton, she lived most of her life at 19 Upper Mount Street, Dublin. Interested in both art and music, she studied first at the Royal Irish Academy of Music and later at the RA School of Art in London. Her early paintings show the influence of Sir William Orpen who was a friend of the family. She married Harry Reid in 1923 but was widowed within a year, and soon afterwards abandoned oil painting in favour of watercolours. She was secretary of the WCSI for over 30 years, allowing administrative work to come before her own art.
