(62.9 by 93.3cm) Frame Size: 34.5 by 42.75in. (87.6 by 108.6cm) Born in Cabra in 1939, Peter Behan went on to become one of the biggest names in Irish, and indeed international modern art between the 1960s and 1980s. An example of his work can be found in the Hugh Lane Gallery, Dublin. The humble beginnings and colourful family life of his early years strongly influenced what would become Behans distinctly unique style of painting. Behan moved to Leicester, England at the age of 19 and from there soon after to London. It was there where he studied Life Classes at St. Martins School of Art. Schooling however was of little consequence to Behan and it was said that he was largely a self-taught artist. Behan, together with is wife and son later moved to Hampshire for a number of years before finally moving to northern Italy where he and his wife still reside. €1,000-€1,500 (£830-£1,240 approx.)
