County Carlow Jury charge sheet of William Presley of Stradnakelly in the County of Wicklow, farmer. ‘The Jurors for our Lord the King, upon their Oath, that Andrew Morris of Mullannashea, Co. Wicklow, Francis Morris of Whiterock, Wicklow Samuel Morris of Cross, Thomas Morris late of Hacketstown, Co Carlow, WilliamWilson, Thomas Matthers, yeomen, with many other evil disposed Persons and Disturbers of the Peace whose names are ignorant of, On seventeenth day of August in the fifteenth Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Third, by the Grace of God of Great-Britain, France, and Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith, with Force and Arms that is to say with Swords, Sticks at Hacketstown in the said Co Carlow did riotously, routously and unlawfully assemble and associate themselves together, and the said Persons being then and there so riotously, routously and unlawfully assembled and associated upon one William Presley, a True and faithfully subject of the King the peace of God and of the said Lord the King ..they did beat wound and ill-treat where his life was greatly despaired of.. Contrary to the peace of our said Lord the King his Crown and Dignity’ . A rare piece of Elvis Presley’s claim to Irish ancestry. Condition: Slightly soiled. Very good. In Edward Crawford’s Cromwellian Papers it is recorded that Andrew Presley purchased land from John Richmond ‘late a soldier in Co. Henry Prittie’s troops. The following is a summary of information supplied by Ron Dixon in 1982: Andrew Presley, son of William left the family farm on the Wiclow/Carlow border circa 1753 and travelled to Scotland, and thence to America. Andrew settled in North Carolina and in 1776 he was joined by his father William Presley (victim of the attack in 1775). William’s death in 1802 recorded his place of origin as Wicklow. His son Andrew, born 1754 had a son Dunnan (1780 - 1850). Andrew was a Blacksmith and took part in the American revolutionary war. Dunnan had a son Dunnan (1827-1900) who served in the Confederate Army (Tennessee Militia) in the Civil War. Dunann had a daughter Rosella (1862 - 1924). Rosella remained unmarried but she had at least 9 children, one of whom was Jessie 1896 - 1973, he married Minnie Mae, who died in 1980. Their son Vernon Presley (1916 - 1979) married Gladys, who died in 1958. Their son was Elvis Presley (1935 - 1977) - his twin brother Jessie died at birth.
