Blade with a single fuller on both sides etched ‘C.C.A.’, regulation brass hilt, sideguard pierced with flowering foliage and scrolls, one piece spiral carved horn grip, in its scabbard with suspension rings. Republic of Ireland National Bond for One Hundred Dollars. Issued by Michael Scanlon and Patrick O’Sullivan on behalf of the Fenian Brotherhood. The Hundred Dollars is extremely rare. Condition: Slabbed and graded ‘58 Choice about uncirculated’ by Paper Money Guaranty, USA. These bonds were issued in America to fund the Fenian Rising of 1867 and were “redeemable six months after the acknowledgement of the Independence of the Irish Nation”. They were redeemed almost eighty years later when Eamon De Valera called the Fenian bonds in. Any outstanding bonds were thereafter valued as collectibles, which today occasionally show up at auction.
