Small quarto scrapbook with about 100 pp of neatly laid down cuttings, carefully dated, mostly concerning naval engagements, July-December 1916, Battle of Jutland etc. Dublin music. Small folio scrapbook with neatly mounted programmes and notes of Dublin musical events 1900-1901, including Orpheus Choral Soc. (conductor Dr. Culwick), Dr. Smith’s Glee Choir, memorial service for Queen Victoria, etc., some items mentioning Mr. Wesley Guard, probably the compiler. Note: James Joyce was at university in Dublin in 1900-02, and may perhaps have attended some of these events. Condition: Bindings distressed, most of the cuttings are very good. (27.9 by 21.6cm) Condition: Some edge tears, overall toning, good. John Tyndall (1820-1893) was an Irish physicist. His scientific fame arose in the 1850s from his study of diamagnetism. Later he made discoveries in the realms of infrared radiation and the physical properties of air, proving the connection between atmospheric CO2 and what is now known as the greenhouse effect in 1859.
