6 3 Iron Age socketed and decorated axe head, found in CountyWexford. Found circa 1950 near Enniscorthy. 3.75 by 1.75in. (9.5 by 4.4cm) Condition: Corrosion has removed most of the decoration. A man with long beard, cuneform inscription on reverse. Acquired in Persia (Iran) by Captain Denis Pack- Beresford of County Carlow, circa 1855. 4 by 1.50 by 0.75in. (10.2 by 3.8 by 1.9cm) Condition: Broken in two and repaired, good appearance. Provenance: Captain Denis William Patrick Pack-Beresford, Carlow; Private collection. Capt. Denis Pack-Beresford was educated at the Royal Academy, Wollwich. He received his commission in 1836 and commenced his career in the Royal Artillery. At the start of the Crimean War he volunteered for active service and was appointed an aide-de-camp to General Cator and accompanied him to the East, including Persia.
