130 93 Rowan Gillespie (b.1953) IMAGINE [THE FRAILEST REED], 2006 bronze; (no. 3 from an edition of 9) signed, numbered and dated on base 24.75 by 10.50 by 6.75in. (62.9 by 26.7 by 17.1cm) The artist notes: ”This piece was originally conceived in 1980 at the time of John Lennon’s assassination however, to my regret, I didn’t have a bronze mix strong enough for the cast. By 2006 I had developed a suitable mix, so the edition went ahead. The name I put on it then was “The Frailest Reed” but it never stuck so, by the end of the edition, it was back to being called “Imagine”. It later mutated to become the full size sculpture “Proclamation”which stands outside Kilmainham Gaol.” We are grateful to the artist for his kind assistance in cataloguing this lot. €15,000-€20,000 (£13,160-£17,540 approx.)
