(30.5 by 30.5cm) Provenance: Whyte’s, 9 December 2012, lot 125; Private collection Ardmore Ceramic Art is created and produced by Zulu artists in the foothills of the Drakensberg Mountains of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa. Vibrantly coloured, hand-painted flora and fauna come to life on platters, teapots, vases and bowls; each piece a unique expression of African folklore depicting the myth and legend of its rural inhabitants. In essence, the vision and soul of Africa. Embedded in the history of Ardmore is a story of economic and social upliftment of the Zulu people of KwaZulu Natal. In 1985 Ardmore Ceramic Art was established by the Zimbabwean-born artist and teacher Fèe Halsted-Berning. Ardmore artists have since received awards of merit including The Standard Bank Young Artist Award for Visual Art that was awarded to Fèe Halsted-Berning and Bonakele (Bonnie) Nttshalintshali in recognition of their high standard of work. Ardmore participated in the International Ceramic Festival in Wales 2001 and exhibited in the Bowled Over exhibition at the OXO Gallery in London.
