(71.1 by 73.7cm) Frame Size: 34.25 by 35.5in. (87 by 90.2cm) Abraham Hulk Senior was born in London in 1813. The son of Dutch textile merchants Hendrik Hulk and Mary Burroughs, he first trained as portrait painter at the Royal Academy of Amsterdam before turning to marine subjects which were among his most acclaimed works. Hulk exhibited in New York, Amsterdam, The Hague and London where three of his works were showed at the Royal Academy of Arts in 1876 and 1890. Hulk was a skillful, atmospheric painter concerned with the effects of fine lights on his rural and seascapes compositions. €1,500-€2,000 (£1,300-£1,740 approx.)
