Kilkenny, May 2002; Private collection; Whyte’s, 26 November 2007, ex lot 94; Collection of Jill Cox; Her sale, Adam’s, 7 September 2011, ex lot 828; Private collection An important and timely exhibition titled ‘Markievicz: Portraits and Propaganda’ was held at the National Gallery of Ireland, 27 October to 10 February 2019 to mark the centenary of Markievicz’s election as the first woman to the UK Parliament (1918) and the formation of the First Dáil (1919), of which she was a member; this exhibition explored the role of portraiture both in moulding her private and public image.
