Whyte's THE ECLECTIC COLLECTOR TIMED ON-LINE AUCTION 18 APRIL 2026
138 216 1922 (9 April) Michael Collins signed calling card. Printed calling card signed in ink on reverse, also a picture postcard of ‘General Michael Collins’. The calling card size: 1.50 by 3in. (3.8 by 7.6cm) Condition: Very good. Scarce example of Michael Collins’ calling card, signed and dated on the reverse by Collins on 9 April 1922. The card was gifted and signed during Collins’ visit to Wexford. There, on that day, Collins spoke publicly to a large crowd and gave an impassioned speech in support of the Anglo-Irish Treaty. In 2022 on the centenary of the speech, a plaque was unveiled at the location of the speech in St. Peters Square which included a quote from Collins’ speech that day: ‘No good can come from a division among ourselves. Can we not cease to look for the mean motive in every word uttered by each of us and look instead for the generous one? Can we not agree to disagree where we disagree, to unite for objectives that are common to us all?’. Together with a contemporary memorial postcard of Collins produced following his death. (2) The copper printing plate used for the production of this card used by Collins was previously sold by Whyte’s (21 May 2022, lot 322) Estimate €200-€300 (approx £170-£260) Click here for more images and to bid on this lot 216
