Three signed depositions regarding a rape in Carlow town Three signed depositions regarding the rape in Carlow town on 30th June 1774 of Ann Poland wife of William Poland, a Waiter. Two depositions from Ann andWilliam describing how Daniel Keefe and John Byrne had held her while John Holmes, a fisherman, had carnal knowledge of her body. Further stating that Ann’s life is in danger from the said abuse. Deposition from Hercules McCormack and John Foley who went to the assistance of Ann as she was raped by Holmes in a “waste house” at Castle Street, Carlow. 11 by 7.50in.
