58 92 1880sWilliam Gladstone and Benjamin Discraeli commemorative plates (2) The first of octagonal form, the ivory ground centred by a portrait of Gladstone above his signature and a Roman fasces lictoriae, surrounded by the titles of the senior government offices held in his career, including Prime Minister four times, the portrait garlanded with wild roses. Marked with registration number 41050 for 1886; the other showing Disraeli seated, foral surround surmounted by an earl’s crown. 9.50 by 9.50in. (24.1 by 24.1cm) Condition: Small adhesive tape stain at top left of Gladstone plate, otherwise very fine.
