168 161 Guido Gambone (Italian, 1909-1969) SQUARE TRAY ceramic stamped on underside 10.25 by 10.25 by 1.25in. (26 by 26 by 3.2cm) Guido Gambone was an influential Italian ceramic artist, painter, and sculptor known for modernising traditional ceramics from Vietri sul Mare. Born in Montella, Italy, he began working in ceramics as a teenager and became associated with the innovative circle of German and Italian artists active on the Amalfi Coast in the 1920s and 1930s. After founding his own workshop, La Faenzerella, in the 1940s, Gambone developed a distinctive style characterised by bold forms, textured glazes, and abstract or primitive-inspired decoration. In 1950 he moved to Florence, where his work evolved toward more sculptural and modernist forms influenced by artists such as Picasso and Miró. Today, Gambone is regarded as one of the most important figures in 20th-century Italian studio ceramics. €400-€600 (£340-£520 approx.) Click here for more images and to bid on this lot161
