(20.3 by 9.5 by 9.5cm) Tilgmans Keramik was a Swedish ceramics company founded in 1948 by Paul Harald Tilgmann near Gothenburg, Sweden. The company became well known for its decorative mid-century ceramics, especially animal figurines and hand-decorated vases and plaques. In the early-1970s production was transferred to Derry, Northern Ireland, while a smaller finishing workshop remained in Gothenburg, Sweden. Some semi-finished ceramic pieces were shipped between Ireland and Sweden for final decoration and glazing. The Irish-made ceramics generally kept the same Scandinavian style: textured sgraffito surfaces, earthy glazes, and hand-painted motifs such as birds, fish, flowers, and abstract patterns. The later Irish production often featured darker and more rustic colours compared with the brighter Swedish designs of the 1950s and early 1960s. €150-€200 (£130-£170 approx.)
