(96.5 by 101.6cm) Provenance: Family of the artist Exhibited: ‘Barrie Cooke Exhibition’, Haags Gemeentemuseum, The Hague, 5 September to 25 October 1992 Born in England Barrie Cooke was educated at Harvard, Skowhegan and Kokoschka’s School of Seeing in Salzburg. He settled in Ireland in 1954 and exhibited widely both here and abroad. There have been three retrospective exhibitions of his work: Douglas Hyde Gallery, Dublin 1986; Haags Gemeetemudeum, 1992 and L.A.C Perpignan, France, 1995. Cooke won many awards, including the Martin Toonder Award 1987 and his work is in many public and private collections. His paintings are in a semi-abstract expressionistic style and he also incorporated sculptural elements such as perspex boxes containing arrangements of real or artificially created bone fragments.
