board decorated with the island of Ireland flanked on either side by flags
and the words ‘Long Kesh 1975’ and below the word ‘Provisional’.

1978: Portlaoise Republican prisoner art cross
A large handmade prisoner art Celtic cross. The front marked “In honour
of Ireland’s patriot dead RIP, Provisionals.” The reverse “19 - Portlaoise -
78”. The underside of the cross marked “From Malachy”. A good quality

1980s: Long Kesh (The Maze Prison) Key tags including Hall Guard,
H6, ABF Master etc.
Collection of key tags. Also includes IRF Hut, COMP 19, Cook 3, one Yale
key and two filing cabinet keys. This, and lot 412, were acquired from a
contractor employed to demolish the prison. Her Majesty’s Prison Maze
(known colloquially as Maze Prison, The Maze, The H Blocks or Long
Kesh) was a prison in Northern Ireland that was used to house
paramilitary prisoners from mid-1971 to mid-2000. The prison was
closed in 2000 and demolition began on 30 October 2006.

1980s: H Block Maze Prison leather work prisoner art with signatures
An attractive piece of republican leather work prisoner art. Decorated
with images of hunger strikers and verse, surrounded by Celtic
strapwork, the arms of the four provinces and the words “H Block
Martyrs”. Signed on the reverse by 18 individuals. 20 x 22in. (51 x 56cm)

1980s-90s: Crumlin Road Jail, Belfast - Collection including part of
railings and various documents and ephemera
Four dagger shaped crestings removed from the perimeter railings of
Belfast’s famous jail, which housed many hundreds of prisoners from all
sides of the conflict in Northern Ireland. With a letter of provenance.
Also Fire Brigade Emergency Plan including map, pp15, Northern Ireland
Prison Service Training manuals, memos, reports, instructions on conduct,
drugs, giving evidence, searches, prisoners misconduct, and a “Details of
Alleged Offence Against Prison Discipline” form 1126 concerning a
prisoner, Kenneth Johnston, refusing to obey order of Prison Officer
Stanley Colville on 2 May 1988, and a copy of a speech by a prison
officer to his Masonic Lodge. Fascinating lot. (pp70 A4 approx., mainly
mimeographs, some typescript and manuscript, mostly confidential or
secret).

1993: Crumlin Road Jail Republican prisoner art
A large piece of framed Republican prisoner art, decorated with various
verse and images including a portrait of Bobby Sands and members of
both the wings of the IRA. Signed bottom centre “by Stevie J. and Dan
the Man K. Crumlin Rd. Gaol A Wing ‘93” and signed by numerous other
prisoners on the artwork edges. Made by Dan Kelly, well known for his
artwork in prison. 25 x 17½in. (64 x 43cm)

Signatures include Gerry Butler, Paddy Hemhill, John McKinney, Kevin

etc., also a Bobby Sands framed commemorative montage, and “H-Block

A piece of republican prisoner art decorated with portraits of hunger
strikers alongside an image of Provisional IRA members. Titled ‘They died
for the freedom of Ireland’ in Irish and dedicated ‘Happy 18th Danny Ó
Dad Long Kesh 95”. Made by Dan Kelly, well known for his art in prison.

2007 (8 May) Northern Ireland Assembly signed commemorative
brochure
A commemorative brochure produced for the occasion of the opening of
the Assembly in May 2007 signed by political figures including Tony
Blair, Bertie Ahern. Martin McGuinness, Ian Paisley (inscribed “Ephesians
6 v 19-20”), Peter Hain, Albert Reynolds, Gerry Kelly, John Hume, Gerry
Adams. Ministers of the Assembly have also signed beside their
respective portraits including Peter Robinson, Caitriona Ruane, Nigel
Dodds, Michael McGimpsey, Margaret Ritchie, Conor Murphy, Arlene
Foster, Michelle Gildernew, Edwin Poots and Reg Empey. An extremely
scarce piece of ephemera relating to one of the most important
moments in Northern Ireland’s recent history. Also with a unsigned
example of the same brochure. (2 items)
