The first edition in French of the second of Haller’s three philosophical
romances, first published Berne 1773, in which his views as to the
respective merits of despotism, of limited monarchy and of aristocratic
republican government are fully set forth. Martin, Mylme and Frautschi
75. 29 give precedence to the Berne edition of 1775 for this anonymous
translation.
