Sanchez, commonly called Franciscus Sanctius Brocensis (1523-1601),
successively professor of Greek and of rhetoric at Salamanca. His
Minerva, first published at that town in 1587, was long the standard
work on Latin grammar. “The ultimate success of his Minerva was
unbounded. He was regarded by Haase as having done more for Latin
Grammar than any of his predecessors, and Sir William Hamilton
even held that the study of Minerva, with the notes of the editors, was
more profitable than that of Newton”s Principia” (Sandys II, 159).

Willem Hessels van Est (1542-1613), Dutch exegete and hagiographer,
considered a saint by his friends and pupils, took part in the
controversies of his time, especially in that on Molinism, in which he
opposed the Jesuits. This present work, first published 1614-16
(posthumously, like most of his writings), his principal work, is
valuable especially for its careful exegesis of the literal sense and its
judicious choice of patristic material, following the Antiochene rather
than the Alexandrian school. It was freequently reprinted down to the
end of the 19C but the editions improved by Horstius, from 1679
onwards, are considered preferable.

the same error of pagination but quotes the printer as Estienne
Michallet. NUC has two copies of the Michallet printing: MH and
MoSU-D but does not record this Prevost printing, nor is it in the BN
