With portrait and 34 engraved plates, 31 vols bound in 15, large
square 12mo, contemporary cloth over marbled boards, gilt
lettered spines: with some light rubbing of the headbands but
the bindings of all volumes sound and strong and otherwise a
very good set.
The complete collected works. Langbein (1757-1835), a purveyor of
light literature in short story and anecdotal form, also wrote poems,
plays and several novels.

With a fine additional engraved title-page, pages (16), 1016, (2),
cols 198, folio, later half calf: the binding worn with headbands
gone, but still strong, some hairline worming in outer margins
affecting text only on a handful of leaves: a clean, sound and
very good copy.
Laymann (1574-1635), one of the greatest moralists and canonists of
his time. In this, his main work, he stands firmly for a milder treatment
of those accused of witchcraft. This was the last edition published
during his lifetime.
