September 1780 to May 1782.

London during the same year - as also was the first edition, in French,
where the author was living. Linguet, an able but arrogant advocate and
political journalist had been disbarred and obliged to leave France on
account of the caustic violence of his writings. Returning to France he
was arrested and imprisoned. His valuable account of his near two-year
incarceration was widely read and Italian and German translations
quickly followed.
