mottled calf, gilt ruled spines, with red and green labels, gilt:
with the very faintest suggestion of wear at the headbands, but
still a very good to nice, strongly bound set.
Morgan 7264*. Goldsmiths’ 14103. Not in Kress. Originally published
in German at Gottingen in 1786-87, this was written at the request of
Queen Charlotte of Great Britain who sought a book to explain the
current legal and political state of Germany and how it had arisen.
Puetter was the most distinguished jurist in late 18th century Germany.

QUESNEL (Pasquier).

lettered spine: a nice copy.
Quesnel (1634-1719), French Jansenist, whose Abrégé de la morale de
l’Évangelie, first published 1672 with a commendatory preface by the
Bishop of Châlons-sur-Marne, later expanded and revised to four
volumes, became famous under its new title as Le Nouveau Testament
en français, avec des réflexions morales sur chaque verset, usually
referred to as Réflexions morales: a major contribution to the literature
of Jansenism. It attained wide popularity amongst Protestants and
Roman Catolics alike but was placed on the Index and condemned by
Clement XI in 1708, and, five years later, by the bull Unigenitus. This
third edition is not in COPAC and is represented in NUC by a single
copy only (NN).

contemporary calf, with label, gilt: the binding a little worn but
sound and strong and still attractive, a very good to nice copy.
Colonia (1660-1741), professor of rhetoric at Lyon, first published this
work in 1722, a biting criticism of some of the most highly esteemed
ecclesiastical writers of his day. The work was placed on the Index in
1749, where it remained till 1900.
