James II. An important hoard of Gunmoney found in Co. Tipperary in

1936.

Comprises: crowns 1690 (6) including Dowle & Finn 366 (4) , 366 with

dot after REX and before tip of sword variety, and 370; large halfcrowns

(10) dated Jan:, Feb: (3), Augt., Oct: (2), Dec: (2), 1690 Apr: ; small

halfcrowns (25) with 1690 May. (8), June (2), July (6) and Aug: (1690)

and indecipherable (4); large shillings (4) dated 1689 Jan, Mar., Augt.,

Sept. The coins were found near Lisrathdine Fort, on a farm near

Norwood, Co. Tipperary, in 1936. (45)

Provenance: By descent to the present owner from the original finder.

Literature: C.O.I.N. No. 48 “The Gunmoney Hoard” by John G. Casey. Circa

1975. A copy accompanies this lot.

struck with significant porosity.
