Possibly a scene on the Atlantic Drive, Achill Island, although of this one cannot be certain. The
heavy impasto employed in the foreground and in the clouds is relatively uncommon in Paul
Henry’s oeuvre, although the evenly applied paint on the rest of the painting is typical of his
work. Again, characteristic of Henry, the composition was almost certainly based on sketches
made earlier. Dated to the 1940s on stylistic grounds, Landscape, Connemara is numbered 1290
in S. B. Kennedy’s ongoing cataloguing of Paul Henry’s work.
