Talisman or Charm

A silver charm, possibly late 18th or early 19th century,

naively engraved to the obverse with a star of David

incorporating various arcane symbols and enclosing

the engraved names of St Michael, St Raphael, St James

and St Julian and FEAR NOTHING - MARY BEHOLD - THE

SERVANT - OF THE LORD”, and to the reverse with the

ancient riddle, “SATOR - AREPO - TENET - OPERA - ROTAS”

surrounded by “MEPHENAIJ PHATON”. A strange object.”

ivory-inlaid walnut stock with bone covered butt-box

and ramrod with bone cap. The barrel later. The steel key
