This silver box is a copy of a brass standish, or desk stand, in the collection of the Company of
Goldsmiths of Dublin. The standish was presented by Huguenot silversmith David Rummieu
(d.1729), quarter brother, to the Company in 1700.
Copies in silver of Rummieu's standish were produced in the late 19th century by Edmond
Johnson, master warden of the Company of Goldsmiths of Dublin.
This example is a previously unknown version produced in early 20th century
Birmingham.Whyte’s would like to thank Dr Thomas Sinsteden for his assistance in cataloguing
this lot.
