Tom Lalor (fl.1940s)

FIGURES AT A WATER PUMP

oil on canvas laid on board

12 x 16in. (30.48 x 40.64cm)

An artist by the name of T. Lalor exhibited at the Oireachtas art exhibitions throughout the 1940s and once - in 1943

- at the RHA from an address in Carlingford Road, Drumcondra. It is believed this may be the artist Tom Lalor whose

watercolour caricatures of Dublin personalities, dating to 1917-1919, are in the collection of the National Library of

Ireland. Lalor was a commercial artist who between 1912 and 1923 supplied a weekly half-page cartoon to D.P. Moran’s

Leader. He was also involved in poster campaigns for the Irish Independent in the early 1930s. Whyte’s offered a cartoon

dating from circa 1920 on 16 April 2011 as lot 273.

€800-€1200 (£576-£864 approx.)
