A maquette for a large sculpture of the same title by Brian King which is located outside the Smurfit Institute

of Genetics at Trinity College Dublin. Since 2006 TCD has awarded The Dawson Prize in Genetics to genet-

icists of international prominence. The prize was established by a gift from George Dawson (1927-2004), the

founder of the Department of Genetics at TCD and is presented in the form of a gold miniature of the pres-

ent work.
