A Hussar-pattern black seal-skin busby of the Mounted Escort, ceremonial unit of the Irish Army, with black

trimmed saffron bag and detached brass chain-link chin-strap.

The Blue Hussars, officially called the Mounted Escort, was a ceremonial unit of the Irish Army established in

1932. It escorted the President of Ireland on state occasions, most famously to and from presidential inaugurations

between 1938, when the first president took office, and 1948 when the Escort was disbanded.

central disc emblazoned with a ‘Z’ crossed by an airship. Maker’s mark for Mayer & Wilhelm, Stuttgart. Extremely

scarce.
