(25.4 by 35.6cm) McHugh graduated from NCAD in 2005 with a 1st Class Honours from the painting department. He was awarded prestigious residencies at the Cyprus Summer Studio, Limassol, Cyprus, the Bad Segeburg, Ger- many and the CAP Foundation, Dublin. His work has dealt with the psychology of imagery and the pro- cessing involved in the creation and reception of pictures. “In order to look upon images as thought, I use a number of practical strategies and alternative representational forms as models for my work. Drawing as storytelling, drawing as a didactic means, drawing as metaphorical thought or rhetoric and drawing as theoretical analysis,” said McHugh of his work for the CAP Foundation Award which he received in 2005.
