A black and white photograph of Kennedy inscribed in black ink to the lower margin, ‘To Margaret Boyd - with best regards - John Kennedy’ Provenance By descent to the current owner. Margaret Boyd worked for successive American Ambassadors to Ireland as a member of the administrative staff of the American Embassy, Dublin. She met John F. Kennedy and was presented with his signed photograph during his visit to Ireland in 1963. With handwritten note by Dr Whitaker, agreeing to sign the notes: “Glad to oblige even at risk of imprisonment for defacing the currency” Thomas Kenneth Whitaker (8 December 1916 – 9 January 2017) was an Irish economist, politician, diplomat and civil servant who served as Secretary of the Department of Finance from 1956 to 1969, as the Governor of the Central Bank of Ireland from 1969 to 1976 and a Senator from 1977 to 1982. He is credited with a pivotal role in the economic development of Ireland. His signature was printed on the banknotes of Ireland from 1956 to 1976.
