Three decorated handkerchiefs, a handkerchief decorated with a shield bearing the arms of the four provinces supported by an eagle beneath a banner, ‘1970 - Long Kesh - 1972’ and signed Patrick J McClean; a handkerchief wth a depiction of the Cúchulainn dying and a poem in Irish, by Sean Mac Ghamhrain; and a handkerchief decorated with a Celtic Cross flanked by tricolours and surrounded by the arms of the four Provinces beneath a banner, ‘Long Kesh Camp - October - 24 - 1971 - Sean O’Rawe’. (3) Patrick Joseph McClean, a former chairman of the Northern Ireland Civil Rights Association, was one of fourteen men detained by the British army in 1971 and subjected to experimental interrogation techniques. The group became known as the ‘Hooded Men’, because they were hooded for prolonged periods.
