(27.9 by 20.3cm) Provenance: Acquired by Ernie O’Malley, mid 1940s; Thence by family descent Literature: Published initially in the New York Times, then the Irish Independent (26 Sep 1924) and then in the American Forum; Oliver St. John Gogarty’s memoir, As I walked Down Sackville Street (1937) The cartoon depicts W.B. Yeats and AE Russell walking past 83 Merrion Square to visit one another without seeing each other. It has been reproduced extensively; was referred to in Sean Piondar’s March 1945 Questionnaires to Celebrities No. 24 “Mac”, published in some magazines, such as the Dublin Magazine, pp. 3-4 as well as Frank Bouchier Hayes’ article on ‘The rich and varied life of a forgotten Dublin Cartoonist’ on 5 March, 2010 in Pue’s Occurrences. €1,500-€2,500 (£1,320-£2,190 approx.)
