(7) Includes a rare early portrait of Ashe in his early 20s by Keogh Brothers, later portraits with a set of pipes, also 1914 in a kilt by Foley in New York and a large Keogh Brothers head and shoulders portrait, a copy of a photo of Ashe after his release in 1917 and two photographs of his sister, Nora. Estimate €200-€300 (approx £180-£270) Click here for more images and to bid on this lot 176 177 [1917] Copies of two lengthy letters fromThomas Ashe to “Greiracroide” (Gregory) written in 1913. 10 pages in Ashe’s hand in pencil and ink, in a school copybook, including interesting accounts such as the destruction of a portrait of “the Kings” (Edward VII and George V) at Foley’s pub in Inch by two young doctors from Dingle, and a resulting fracas with a policeman and his friends - “The lads in Dingle are becoming very Irish”, the Dublin Strike and Lockout, Gaelic League “great row” between him and other “disturbers” and Douglas Hyde “who made a complete fool of himself”, “Home Rule is as dead as a doornail” (November 14), a dispute with the authorities over Ashe getting cards printed in Irish and affixing the British stamps to them, “He [Jem Larkin] and Jem Connolly are now asking their men to drill like Carsons”, includes two pencil drawings by Ashe and what appears to be a list of Republican sympathisers in North County Dublin.
