125 History THE ECLECTIC COLLECTOR · 25 & 26 JULY 2020 217 1917 (25 September) Mountjoy Prison doctor’s report on Thomas Ashe Dr Dowdall states “the illness of prisoner Thomas Ashe may terminate fatally within a brief period” and he proposes that the prisoner be transferred to The Mater Hospital.”This manuscript on original printed UK “Form of Report by Medical Officer of Prison” appears to be an official file copy supplied to the Ashe family’s solicitor at the inquest. Also a horrifying prison report of the forcible feeding Ashe of a “half pint of beef tea...a half pint of milk.....a half oz. of brandy with milk every 15 min.”Manuscript on printed form “SICK PRISONERS UNDER CONTINUOUS TREATMENT”.
