Condition: Slight aging, couple small tears, very good. “I have seen the Monthly Review of the Melodies, it is a great thing in our favour.” A letter from Thomas Moore to his publisher discussing the recent positive reviews of his Irish Melodies, which Powers published in ten volumes between 1808 and 1843 and asking him to defer publication of “The Fair & Purest”.. Estimate €700-€900 (approx £640-£820) Click here for more images and to bid on this lot 611 610 Richard Brinsley Sheridan (1751-1816) signed cheque. Cheque, dated 12 January 1807, drawn on Messrs. Biddulph, Cocks’s & Ridhge’s to William Earl for £40, signed R. B. Sheridan and inscribed, possibly by the disgruntled payee: “One of Sheridan’s cheques dishonoured. A much greater curiosity would be one of his which had been paid”. Condition: Four heavy folds, staining, a few small edge tears, but legible, good. Richard Brinsley Butler Sheridan (1751 – 1816) was an Irish born satirist, a playwright, poet, and long-term owner of the London Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. He is known for his plays such as The Rivals, The School for Scandal, The Duenna and A Trip to Scarborough. He was also a Whig MP for 32 years in the British House of Commons for Stafford (1780–1806), Westminster (1806– 1807), and Ilchester (1807–1812). He is buried at Poets’ Corner in Westminster Abbey.
