Large format with vignettes of Wolfe Tone and Robert Emmet, unissued with counterfoil, John O’Mahony signature in plate. ”The Irish Republic is indebted to ________ or bearer in the sum of Twenty Dollars redeemable six months after the acknowledgement of the Independence of the Irish Nation with interest from the date hereof inclusive at Six percent per annum payable on presentation of this bond at the Treasury of the Irish Republic.” Condition: Good very fine, couple light creases, slight soiling on counterfoil, couple tone spots. Printed by Continental Bank Note Printing Company of New York. These bonds were issued in America to fund the Fenian Rising of 1867. They were redeemed almost eighty years later by the Irish Government. Any outstanding bonds were thereafter valued as collectibles. Scarce issued note, large format with vignettes of Wolfe Tone and Edward FitzGerald, Dated 1 February with signature of John O’Mahony in the plate. ”The Irish Republic is indebted unto Thaddeus McCartie or bearer in the sum of Ten Dollars redeemable six months after the acknowledgement of the Independence of the Irish Nation with interest from the date hereof inclusive at Six percent per annum payable on presentation of this bond at the Treasury of the Irish Republic.” Condition: Very fine for this, couple folds, tiny edge tears, light toning on edges.
