66 History 94 1870 (13 June) Letter written by Arthur MacMurrough MP - the famous limbless man. Four page letter from the pen of the incredible Arthur MacMurrough Kavanagh, M.P. written from 10 Chester Square, London. Condition: Very good. Born without arms or legs, Arthur served as Member of Parliament for fourteen years, travelled to Russia, India and Persia, was an expert horseman and shot, and was a keen yachtsman. He married, fathered 6 children and was elected as an MP. This letter is addressed to his land agent “Devine” . Estimate €100-€150 (approx £90-£140) Click here for more images and to bid on this lot 94 93 Clonmel Mental Hospital - a set of 24 gilt buttons and Guinness set of 6 waistcoat buttons. The Guinness set of 1959 promotional buttons is in original box. Condition: Fine to very fine. The hospital opened as the Clonmel Asylum in January 1835. It became Clonmel Mental Hospital in the 1920s and went on to become St. Luke’s Hospital in the 1950s. In the late 1980s the hospital went into a period of decline and, following the publication of a highly critical report in 2009, it closed in December 2012.
