(2) Both struck in bronze: the first by Woodhouse, 45mm, with bust of William Dargan, reverse showing the exhibition pavilions; second by Fagan, 40mm, with bust of Carmichael obverse. Condition: About very fine, and good very fine. Estimate €80-€100 (approx £70-£90) Click here for more images and to bid on this lot 66 68 1859 (1 August) Playbill on silk for a racist entertainment including the “Charleston Coloured Opera Troop” at Carrick-on- Shannon The entertainment, at the Courthouse, Carrick, appears to be played by “minstrels” or “white coons” as they were known - white men blacked up. The show is advertised as “Under the distinguished patronage of Lieutenant Colonel Clements and Major Forbes of The Leitrim Rifles. the racist tone continues in the cast list: “Sambo, a servant, a genius of the black species” and “Comic Song - She’s Black”. The cast consists mainly of local families - the Pearsons, Hortons and Ackermans. Framed. 15 by 8in. (38.1 by 20.3cm) Condition: Silk laid down to card, a few holes, creasing, very good.
