A large and fascinating collection ( 180 ) “Received from the Board of Superintendence of Carlow Jail” printed receipts, detailing payments for “repair of gun”, providing clothes and travel expenses for poor prisoner, hospital nurse, Protestant and Roman Catholic chaplains, Governor and Turnkeys, police for escort duty, painting the female prison, Gas Tax, and Carpet - the latter, presumably, for the prison officers and not the inmates!
