112 History 209 1917-1921War of Independence Service Medal with Comrac clasp to an IRA captain, Edinafagh Company, Co. Donegal. Awarded to Captain EdwardWalsh (1895-1974). Condition: Extremely fine, attractively framed and glazed with Irish Independent newspaper cutting reporting Mr Walsh’s death. EdwardWalsh, originally from Multy in the Glenties, joined the IRA in his youth and was Captain of Edinafagh Company. He took part in major engagements with Crown forces in South-West Donegal, including a major role in the attack on the Ardara Barracks. After the war he joined the Irish Free State Army as a captain, He then worked as a rate collector and lived in Mountcharles, and later emigrated to England where he worked at Ford in Dagenham, Essex, where he died in 1974.
