Scarce issued note, large format with vignettes of Wolfe Tone and Robert Emmet. With signature of John O’Mahony in the plate. ’The Irish Republic is indebted unto [blank] or bearer in the sum of Twenty Dollars redeemable six months after the acknowledgement of the Independence of the Irish Nation with interest from the date hereof inclusive at Six percent per annum payable on presentation of this bond at the Treasury of the Irish Republic.’ Numbered 1246 755 B, issued to Jno. Scanlan. 7.25 by 10.50in. (18.4 by 26.7cm) Condition: Light folds, creases, a few tiny edge tears, fine. Printed by Continental Bank Note Printing Company of New York. These bonds were issued in America to fund the Fenian Rising of 1867. They were redeemed almost eighty years later by the Irish Government. Any outstanding bonds were thereafter valued as collectibles. (19.1 by 27.9cm) Condition: Folded, creases, light toning, fine. Printed by Continental Bank Note Printing Company of New York. These bonds were issued in America to fund the Fenian Rising of 1867.
