39 1914-1918 MunitionWorker Irish silver badge. Legend reads ‘MUNITIONWORKER SIR H. GRUBB & SONS. Pinback with Irish hallmak and J.S. mare’s mark. Very rare. Condition: Extremely fine. Sir Howard Grubb FRS FRAS (1844-1931) was an optical designer from Dublin, Ireland. He was head of a family firm that made large optical telescopes, telescope drive controls, and other optical instruments. During the First WorldWar the Grubb factory, in Dublin, was in demand for the production of telescopic gun-sights and during this time he was credited with perfecting a periscope design for Royal Navy submarines. National Movement against Home Rule “Union Stamp” An example of the ‘stamp’ affixed to a form for opponents of Home Rule, to be sent to Stafford Northcote at Westminster. The design shows a shield representing the four countries in the United Kingdom, with a legend reading ‘Patriots maintain the Union!” . Scarce with the full form.
